SKK Mobile recently introduced two new smartphones added to their line of phablet offerings. The SKK Platinum Advance is an octa-core smartphone, while its more affordable sibling is a quad-core one, Platinum Lite.

Both smartphones are in the phablet-category at a size of 5.5 inches. They have the same qHD resolution or 960x540 pixels, and IPS display for better viewing angles. Take note of small q in qHD, it means quarter-HD not Quad HD (QHD). So, if you're used on using HD screen, (1280x720), you'll definitely notice the pixels on this big screen, but if you're currently using a phone with lower resolution (Wide VGA and lower), it will suit just fine.

They also share dual-sim capabilities, one standard size and another micro. Ample amount of battery juices are equipped at a capacity of 2800mAh. Other similar specs between these two are: Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, GPS, 3G, HSPA+, FM Radio, USB on-the-go support, Android 4.4 Kitkat, and Miracast support.

So what differentiates the two Platinum phones? The Platinum Advance has an octa-core MT6592 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, coupled with 16GB internal phone storage and 1 GB RAM. The Platinum Lite on the other hand, has a quad-core MT6582 processor at 1.3GHz with 8GB internal memory, expandable via microSD  up to 64GB as with its brother. Both processors can power HD screens, so putting it in a lower qHD resolution can produce smoother animations and frame rates, and maybe a better battery life. But with that, you should be used to seeing some pixels on the display, of course, the preference is subjective.

The Platinum Advance will be priced at P8,999 and Platinum Lite at P5,999 when it arrives in the country. Although not so cheap, the design is cool and the bigger screen might justify the price, plus, the specs are just enough to be a daily driver. It looks like the Colonia, btw.
