Apple iPad Air 2 and Mini 3: What's Changed?

New tablet offerings from Apple was just unveiled last October 16. Apple iPad Air 2 and mini 3 were shown in the spotlight. So, what's new and what's not? Should you buy soon? Please read on.

iPad Air 2
The company's larger tablet has new cool upgrades worth mentioning. The iPad Air 2 has a slimmer body at 6.1mm, and lightweight at just 0.96 pounds, just right for its name. Not just thinner, the tablet is also faster with its new processor, the A8X chip coupled with M8 motion coprocessor. The upgraded 64-bit processor is 40% faster than its predecessor, which is still fast in today's standards.

The 9.7-inch display at  2048x1536 resolution is also improved. The thinner display and anti-reflective coating gave it a boost for more vivid colors, less reflections and greater visual experience even in broad daylight. There would be less fingerprints on the screen thanks to the oleophobic coating.

The company also boasts the camera upgrade as the iPad Air 2 possesses the same 8MP iSight camera and 1.2MP front-facing camera or FaceTime HD camera as the ones found on the recently launched, iPhone 6. That's a big jump on mobile photography, tablets to be particular. From now on, I won't complain to people taking photos with their iPads.

The iPad Air is now equipped with the Touch ID technology. That will give you easier way to unlock your iPad and use Apple Pay for your secured internet shopping needs.

iPad Air will come in three colors: Silver, Gold and Space Gray. The price starts at 499 US Dollars or around P22300 direct conversion for the WiFi only model, 16GB. For the WiFi+cellular models, $629 or P28200 would be the price.

iPad mini 3

The smaller tablet announced, iPad mini 3, has brought many heads wondering. Why? It is because of the lack of upgrade the mini got. The fingerprint sensor, Touch ID, was rigged in the mini. Also, the mini 3 comes in gold color option. But other than that, the changes are nowhere to be seen. Of course, it looks good in the picture. But after a year has passed, many were disappointed on the 'upgrade'.

Last year, the iPad Air and iPad mini 2 has similar internals and the specs then were just gorgeous. This year's announcement brought questions to fans and other gadget lovers out there. Could this be due to the launch of Apple iPhone 6? But there's a positive side for those on tight budget. The iPad mini 2 has a lower price now. The current price is $299 or around P13400 direct conversion, while the mini 3 has a $399 price tag or P17800 direct conversion. We'll observe the changes in prices here in the Philippines in the coming weeks. For me, the former's a better deal. How about you?
